Fort Atkinson city officials have announced that a snow emergency will go into effect Thursday, at noon, and remain in effect until Friday, at 8 a.m.
During a snow emergency, all vehicles must be removed from public streets and alleys, according to the city’s announcement.
Residents may park in municipal lots with the exclusion of the lot directly behind the Fort Atkinson Municipal Building. Parking lot signs are posted within lots where residents can find specific rules about parking during snow events, the announcement stated.
A snow emergency is enacted within the city when accumulations of snowfall within a 24-hour period are greater than two inches.
According to the announcement, Department of Public Works officials are concerned with the accumulation level of more than 2 inches, combined with gusty, high winds. This combination of factors increases the likelihood of blowing and drifting snow, causing difficult conditions for snow management throughout the city and removal from the downtown area.
Additionally, the Fort Atkinson Airport runway will be closed from midnight on Thursday until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the announcement stated.
Residents are encouraged to visit the city’s website and social media sites, and local media outlets for updates, the announcement continued.
Those with questions may contact Andy Selle, director of public works, by phone: 920-397-9901.
