A 27-year-old male Thursday drove into the Rock River.
According to information released by the Watertown Police Department, the agency received a call at 12:55 a.m. alerting it that an individual had “traveled off the roadway and was in the Rock River near Tivoli Island.”
Police and fire personnel responded and located the individual who was still inside the vehicle, the release stated.
Fire personnel used equipment to extricate the subject from the vehicle. The subject was then transported to Aurora Summit with non-life threatening injuries, the release noted.
The Department of Natural Resources was contacted, and the vehicle was removed from the river.
According to the release, the subject allegedly “admitted to drinking and was ultimately arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated – second offense, operating after revocation, ignition interlock violation, in addition to other charges pending conclusion of the investigation.
“A search warrant was obtained due to the subject refusing an evidentiary chemical test of his blood. Clean up continues around where the vehicle entered the river. No other people were injured,” the release concluded.
