Wava B. Austin, 87, of Fort Atkinson, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.
Wava was born on September 28, 1936 in Lake Mills, daughter of the late Emil and Mildred (Kinyon) Burkhard. Wava graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1954 and attended UW La Crosse for 1 year. She married Orrin D. Austin on December 3, 1955 at First United Church in Fort Atkinson and lived their entire married life in Fort Atkinson, and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2020.
As an active member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson, Wava served as a trustee, Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher for 52 years and was the Vice President of the United Methodist Women. Wava was also a Fort Healthcare volunteer, Camp Fire and Girl Scout leader, FAST swim team president and volunteered at the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels.
Wava was employed for 40 years at Helmut Ajango Architect and later at Global and Bender for 5 years.
Wava is survived by her children, Lori (Al) Hannam, Jody (Rick) Metzker and Kimberly (Bill) Brock; grandchildren, Mike (Jenny) Cheek, Nick (Meg) Metzker, Matt (Amanda) Cheek, Dan Metzker, Mitch (Julia) Brock and Hailey Brock; great grandchildren, Charlotte Cheek, Gwendolyn Cheek, Adalaide Cheek, Lorelei Cheek, Jaxton Metzker, Quinn Metzker and Lyla Brock; step grandchildren, Todd (Stephanie Goldschmidt) Hannam, Ryan (Jenny) Hannam and Kristi (Ryan) Klopcic; step great grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashley Hannam, Taylor Rossey and Carter and Sophie Klopcic; nephew, John Jones and his children, Nick and Greg Jones and sister-in-law, Jeannine Jones.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church until the time of service. A private family burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
