The School District of Fort Atkinson has announced that the Fort Atkinson High School has earned the AP Pacesetter Award for the 2019-2020 school year.
According to information released by the district, High School Principal Dan Halvorsen recently received a letter and certificate naming the high school as a recipient of the award.
The letter, written by Jon Oestreich, chairman of the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council (WAPAC), noted the following: “Your school is the recipient of a 2020 Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council Pacesetter Award. The 2020 Pacesetter Award is the result of your school’s student participation and performance on the 2020 College Board Advanced Placement Exams.”
The award allows WAPAC to recognize “Access first and Excellence second,” according to the letter.
“WAPAC’s goal is to focus on increasing participation by recognizing Pacesetters or leaders in AP to encourage other districts to promote both access and excellence,” the letter continued.
Winning scores are calculated using a three-level structure and are based on WISEdash data released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. The letter describes its data as “readily available” and “transparent.”
The award model recognizes schools within districts both large and small.
To qualify for the recognition, schools must place above the cut scores to qualify for each of three levels.
Fort Atkinson High School was recognized as a “Level III Advanced Placement Pacesetter School,” the certificate notes.
The above chart, supplied within a letter from the Wisconsin Advanced Placement Advisory Council, naming Fort Atkinson High School as a Level III Advanced Placement Pacesetter School, outlines the metrics used to award schools based on a three-level structure. The table shows the five-year participation trend of students who took the Advanced Placement Program (AP) exams within grades 9-12 enrolled as of the third Friday of September.
