Six vie for two open Fort school board seats; a February primary will be held

By Kim McDarison

At the close of the work day Tuesday, School District of Fort Atkinson Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and School Board Lisa Haas reported that six candidates had successfully submitted the required paperwork to be included as candidates vying for two open school board seats.

The two seats will be filled in April.

With six candidates, Haas wrote in a recent email, a spring primary election will be held on Feb. 15.

The six candidates, all challengers from Fort Atkinson, hoping to fill seats vacated by school board members Mark Chaney and Adam Paul are: Rebecca Van Ess, 1320 Riverside Dr.; Robynn Selle, W7526 Koshkonong Mounds Rd.; Matthew “Mat” Loup, 61 Shirley St.; Christopher J. Rogers, 116 Wilson Ave.; Dale Prisk, 1212 Comanche Ct., and Samantha “Sam” LaMuro, 1120 Arndt Ct.

Would-be incumbents Chaney and Paul both submitted letters of non-candidacy with the district in November.

According to information supplied by the district during a school board meeting held in November, a primary election becomes necessary when more than four candidates come forward for the two open at-large seats.

The Fort Atkinson board of education is a five-member body with each member serving a three-year term.

In 2021, school board member Rhona Buchta was elected.

Seats held by school board members Amy Reynolds and Kory Knickrehm will come due for reelection in 2023.
