City of Whitewater Water Utility crews will begin flushing the city’s water main and hydrant system on Monday, April 25.
According to information released Monday, the activity will run through Friday, April 29.
Flushing the city’s water main and hydrant system is a semi-annual activity.
As stated in the release, flushing the city’s water delivery system tests the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure is available to water utility users. Flushing also confirms that the fire hydrants and valves are operating properly.
In addition, flushing enhances water quality by removing sediment from the city’s water distribution pipes.
During the process, water may become discolored. Property owners are encouraged to open an outside spigot or cold water tap to help alleviate any discoloration, the release noted.
Waiting until after utility crews leave an area before opening a spigot or tap helps ensure a faster result, the release continued.
The release cautioned property owners against washing light colored clothing while discoloration appears in water.
Further, the release stated, should utility crews find any anomalies in the city’s water delivery system, flushing could continue beyond the initial week slated to allow crews time to address those anomalies.
