The town of Sullivan will be holding a Memorial Day observance and other activities Monday, May 30, according to information released by organizers.
The observance marks the 132 year for the event, the release stated, and will be held at the Community Center in Rome. The observance is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
According to the release, the Master of Ceremonies will be Dan Hoffman.
An address this year will be given by Kit Amidzich, a native of Delafield, the release noted, adding: “At an early age she knew she would be joining the military since she comes from a military driven family. Two months after the Twin Towers fell, she left for basic training. Kit Amidzich is part of the state of Wisconsin campaign called ‘I am not invisible.’ With other Wisconsin veterans across the state, she is helping show that women served, too.”
Additionally, the release noted, children interested in entering the decorated bike contest must bring their bikes to the Community Center by 8:30 a.m. to allow time for the entries to be judged.
“Prizes will be awarded,” the release stated.
As part of the day’s events, the Jefferson Middle School Band will furnish the music for the march to the bridge and the Hoffman Cemetery on Water Street where the American Legion Post #513 will conduct the service to honor all veterans of all wars. After the parade, free lemonade will be served at the fire house to all parade participants, the release continued.
The Town of Sullivan Historical Society also will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rome Grade School Museum and at the former E.U.B. Church in Rome. The museum features four large schoolrooms filled with historical displays and artifacts, the release noted.
In addition to the open house, the Historical Society will have “barbeques,” hot dogs and homemade pie and desserts for purchase at the Community Center until 1 p.m.
