The United Church of Christ (UCC) recently sent out an emergency appeal, asking for donations to support Ukrainian refugees. Answering the call, in April, the First Congregational UCC in Fort Atkinson collected $5,130.
According to information released by the First Congregational UCC, there are more than 4.3 million Ukrainians who have fled their country. The UCC sent out an emergency appeal asking for donations to help support the refugees.
Donations given to the UCC’s emergency appeal for Ukraine will provide shelter, food, clothes and transportation to those in need. It will also offer medical, psychosocial, spiritual, and other care to war refugees and internally displaced people, the release stated, adding that, to date, “well over $1 million has been collected.”
The release continued: “Through the ACT Alliance, the UCC funds will help support coordinated relief efforts for refugees in Hungary and Poland.
“Uniting in prayer, action and giving, the UCC and other ministries stand as a people of faith in love and compassion with the people of Ukraine and all who have been adversely affected by the war.”
The Fort Atkinson First Congregational UCC, located at 31 W. Milwaukee Avenue, is an open and affirming church that recently celebrated 180 years of providing spiritual leadership and worship opportunities to the community, the release noted.
