The Fort Atkinson Senior Center has a new flagpole, lights and American flag, courtesy of two local veterans organizations.
The Edwin Frohmader Post 1879 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Paul Frank Florine Post 166 of the American Legion presented a new flag during a dedication of the flagpole and lighting along the senior center’s Robert Street frontage.
“We had an old flag, an old flagpole that was starting to get rusted; it was really showing its age,” senior center director Chris Nye said. “We’ve got a relatively new sign out front, but the lighting was also very old, not adequate to truly do the flag justice at night and keep it lit up like you’re supposed to.”
He said that the VFW and American Legion posts contributed a total of $500 toward the project, with the city electrician hooking up two new lights flanking the sign that replaced an old box light.
“We’re very proud of the relationship we’ve got with the VFW, the Legion and all of our veterans in Fort Atkinson. It’s a great relationship. Were very thankful for them,” Nye said.
He added, “It turned out great, and it’s been a wonderful project.”
Participating in the dedication were Nye, VFW representative R. W. Carothers, Americanism Chairman and VFW representative Candi Bugs and Legion representative Joel Osmundson.
