The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library has announced that it will be hosting a presentation about common scams and fraudulent behaviors.
According to a news release, Jeff Kersten, an agency liaison with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), will be presenting information aimed at helping the public identify the details and warning signs of common scams.
The presentation will he held at the library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 5:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Registration is not required.
Tips about what to do when falling victim to a scan, including factsheets from DATCP, will be made available to those attending the event.
As Wisconsin’s leading agency in consumer protection, DATCP provides information and education, mediates complaints, investigates cases, and takes enforcement actions to fight fraudulent and deceptive practices that harm consumers and businesses, the release stated.
Kersten, in his capacity as agency liaison, travels around the state to educate the public, businesses and law enforcement on privacy protection, data security, identity theft and other areas of consumer protection. Kersten has more than 12 years of experience as a police officer and is a prior consumer protection Investigator for the Bureau of Consumer Protection, a division operating within the DATCP, the release noted.
