AAUW Fort Atkinson to host open house picnic

The Fort Atkinson branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) has announced that it will be holding a “Get to Know Us” open meeting and picnic.

According to a recent news release, the event will be held Thursday, June 2, at the Fort Clubhouse in Rock River Park. The event starts at 5:30 with a social hour, followed by food and a brief presentation. For further information or directions call: 920-309-2668.

“We are inviting all local women interested in empowering girls and women through education, equity, and community-based activities and involvement to join us at this casual and fun evening,” the release stated.

According to the release, AAUW Fort Atkinson has been helping young women afford college educations through scholarships and grants for over 60 years. Nationally, AAUW has been offering such support since 1881. Most recently, the group’s efforts involve supporting STEM education and awareness for young girls, equity and inclusion in the workplace and community, the gender pay gap, and workplace sexual harassment, among others. Through book sales, one of the group’s many activities, the Fort Atkinson branch of AAUW has given more than $370,000 to area women to pursue higher education.
