DAR names Fort High’s Pfeifer ‘Good Citizen’

By Chris Spangler

Fort Atkinson High School senior Cory Pfeifer is the recipient of the Good Citizen Award from the Eli Pierce Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

DAR chapter Vice Regent Janet Stehling presented the award to Pfeifer during a brief ceremony at the school library Friday afternoon.

On hand for the presentation were the honoree’s parents, Gregg and Sherry Pfeifer; high school principal Dan Halvorsen; and school counselors Curt Brokmeier and Laurie Strom.

Created in 1934, the Good Citizen Award is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. Stehling noted that it recognizes individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.

Stehling presented Pfeifer with a certificate, Walmart gift card and a pin decorated with 13 stars representing the original American colonies, a ring of blue representing the DAR and four “books” of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Also on the pin are the laurel wreath of honor and torch of understanding.

She noted that the Good Citizen Award recipient was selected by his peers and school faculty because he demonstrates these qualities to an outstanding degree.

Pfeifer plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-River Falls next fall to study data science.
