‘Driftskippers’ give BASE kids snowmobile rides

On March 6, when the last of Fort Atkinson’s beautiful snowy winter was coming to an end, the Fort Driftskippers Snowmobile Club gave rides to BASE members at Haumererson’s Pond.

The youngsters were very excited and enthusiastic about the opportunity to ride on a snowmobile. For many, this was their first opportunity to ride on a snowmobile.

The Driftskippers Snowmobile Club has promoted the BASE organization, sponsoring their annual Duck Race and holding a raffle for a child’s snowmobile, among other events.

The Driftskippers Club, which is 50 years old, has all-volunteer members who mark and maintain 30 miles of trails around Fort Atkinson. These trails are part of the 300 miles of trails in Jefferson County that connect with the 25,000 miles of trails in Wisconsin. No public funds are used for snowmobile trails, as they are all self-funded.

These trails are available for other winter activities such as hiking, snowshoeing, and dogsledding.

The club holds fundraisers throughout the year to maintain the trails and donate to several local charities.

These trails give snowmobilers the opportunity to see many vistas covered with Mother Nature’s beautiful blanket of snow and the beauty of winter that one could not see or visit at any other time of the year. Visit the website at www.Fort Driftskippers.com or its Facebook page to see upcoming events and activities.
