Fatal ‘small airplane’ crash confirmed in Watertown

An airplane, described as “small” crashed Wednesday in Watertown, according to information released by the city’s Police Chief Robert W. Kaminski. 

The release further confirms that the crash was fatal. Additional details about the confirmation of fatality were not released. 

According to the release, at 9:05 a.m., Watertown police and fire personnel responded to Brandt Quirk Park, 800 Carriage Hill Dr., in the city of Watertown for a report of an airplane crash.

Upon arrival, the release noted, emergency personnel confirmed a fatal crash involving a small airplane. 

Further identification will be released later pending notification of family, the release noted.

In advance of the crash, the release stated, the airplane had taken off from Watertown Municipal Airport. 

Responders to the scene found small fires around the crash site which were quickly extinguished by fire personnel, the release stated. 

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board also responded to the scene and will be leading the investigation with the Watertown Police Department assisting, the release noted. 

Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Dodge County Office of Emergency Management and Dodge County Medical Examiner.
