Fort Atkinson city officials have announced that applications are being accepted from city residents who would like to participate in a program titled: “Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy.”
According to information released by Fort Atkinson City Manager Rebecca Houseman, the program “is an informative and interactive opportunity to learn about the city of Fort Atkinson department operations and government.”
Participants in the program will learn about the city’s council-manager form of government, its various departments, and tour city-owned properties.
The program will provide “hands-on opportunities for residents to learn more about city operations and services, widen community relationships, develop leadership skills and identify opportunities to apply leadership skills in the community and with city government,” the release stated.
A goal of the program is to increase civic engagement, the release noted.
All interested residents of Fort Atkinson who also are of voting age are encouraged to apply.
An application deadline is Wednesday, May 24, at 5 p.m. Successful applicants will be notified by Wednesday, June 14.
The academy will meet on the following Tuesdays: July 25, Aug. 8, Aug. 22, Aug. 29 and Sept. 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
