Editor’s note: The following statement was released Tuesday by Fort Atkinson High School Principal Leigh Ann Scheuerell.
Dear Fort Atkinson High School Families and Students,
This evening, a small fire occurred on the stage of our high school auditorium, shortly after a fifth-grade band concert. While no one was injured, the fire generated a significant amount of smoke. As a result, we will need to cancel classes for all Fort Atkinson High School students on Wednesday, May 24.
We are taking this action out of an abundance of caution and to provide some extra time for the building to ventilate. We expect school to resume on Thursday.
We apologize for the inconvenience this will cause. Please know that the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. We will continue to keep you updated as we know more.
Additionally: Senior Trip to Great America tomorrow will remain on schedule. While breakfast is being postponed, students registered for the trip should meet high school staff in the front of the building for check in no later than 7:45. Busses will leave at 8 and return around 5 p.m.
