Fort high school hosts community Career Fair

A Fort Atkinson community Career Fair was held Thursday at the Fort Atkinson High School.

Throughout the school day, students were invited to meet with several area businesses and organizations who came to the school’s gymnasium. Participating businesses and organizations set up display tables and talked about careers and job opportunities available within their various fields.

According to information released through the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce to prospective participating businesses, the purpose of the career fair was to “build stronger partnerships with community businesses and organizations to help students more clearly understand the connection of their coursework to viable career and college pathways.

“Most importantly, this event represents a school and community partnership that supports our youth, our future workforce, in our Fort Atkinson community.”

Throughout the day, all high school students — some 995 in total — were offered an opportunity to visit the gymnasium and speak with representatives from the participating businesses and organizations.

As part of the experience, the information stated, students were asked to focus on one or more of 16 Wisconsin Career Clusters as they interacted with businesses. The process is developed to help each student learn more about specific careers offered by area businesses, the information stated.

Businesses were encouraged to provide students with information about part-time, full-time, youth apprenticeship, seasonal employment and summer internship opportunities available through their institutions.
