A Fort Atkinson man has been charged with one felony and three misdemeanor counts after allegedly firing a gun in Milton Friday.
Nathan A. Baumeister, 25, has been charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, a felony charge, and three misdemeanor charges including intentionally pointing a firearm at a person, operating a firearm while intoxicated, and disorderly conduct/use of a dangerous weapon.
On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the Milton Police Department released the following information:
“On August 27, 2021, at approximately 7:39 p.m., the Rock County 911 Center received multiple reports of a male shooting at a vehicle on Parkview Drive near the YMCA in the city of Milton.
“Officers from the Milton Police Department and deputies from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office immediately responded to the area. They found two vehicles, a car and a truck, parked along the road with two women and a man present. The man, later identified as Nathan A. Baumeister, 25, was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a handgun. No one was injured.
“The subsequent investigation revealed the following: The car became disabled and the female driver had called the others, who are family members, for help. The female driver of the disabled vehicle was behind the wheel of the car. The second woman was the driver of the truck. A tow strap was between the two vehicles. Baumeister was pushing the disabled car north on Parkview Drive. The driver of the car, fearing that she would rear end the truck, hit the brakes of the car. Baumeister became angry, walked to the driver’s side of the car and pulled a handgun from his waistband. He initially pointed the gun at the driver, then moved the gun to his right, and shot one round into the back seat of the car. He told investigating officers that he did so out of frustration and didn’t intend to hurt anyone.
“Baumeister was arrested and transported to the Rock County Jail. He has been formally charged with: 2nd-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Class G Felony; Intentionally Pointing a Firearm At a Person, Class A Misdemeanor; Operating a Firearm While Intoxicated, Class A Misdemeanor and Disorderly Conduct While Armed, Class B Misdemeanor.
“We’d like to thank the Rock County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance throughout this investigation. We are also grateful for the numerous witnesses who immediately reported the situation and provided crucial information.
“Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3:6 Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Records available online through the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website indicate that Baumeister appeared in Rock County Circuit Court Monday, Aug. 30, via video conference at which time the court set a signature bond of $1,000 with the conditions that he have no contact with an individual identified as H.B., or with that individual’s place of residence, employment, or social media. Additionally, the court ordered that he have no contact with firearms and must maintain absolute sobriety. He may not possess or consume a controlled substance without a valid prescription and in prescribed amounts only.
Baumeister signed the bond on Tuesday, Aug. 31. He is scheduled to appear again in court on Sept. 15 at 1 p.m.
