Providing nearly eight years of service as a member of the Fort Atkinson Police force, Officer Stephen Riggs on Tuesday retired from the department, according to information released by Fort Atkinson Police Chief Adrian Bump.
The department celebrated his time on the force with a “get together,” the chief, within the release, noted.
According to the release, Riggs was hired by the Fort Atkinson Police Department in April 2016. He also serves as a part-time law enforcement instructor at Blackhawk Technical College and has served as a member of the Dane County Sheriff’s Department for three years.
Prior to his employment as a police officer, the release continued, Riggs served his country in the United States Navy twice: from August 1988 to August 1993 and again from May 1997 to January 2013. He retired from military service with a rank of lieutenant commander.
During his military service, the release stated, Riggs was a Naval officer, Naval flight officer, helicopter air crewman and rescue swimmer.
In Fort Atkinson, Riggs held the position of patrol officer, and was a member of the Investigative Support Unit and Mobile Field Force, and additionally served as a firearms instructor and defense and arrest tactics instructor. Riggs received a First Aid Award in 2021 and a Meritorious Service Award in 2020, according to the release.
“Officer Riggs will be missed as he brought an energy and positive attitude with him to work every day,” Bump noted within the release.
