On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the Assembly passed a series of bills focusing on education. Rep. Horlacher (R-Mukwonago) released the following statement:
“Each child is unique, and has a unique set of skills, needs and challenges. No one understands this more than the parents. Parents, not the government, know how best to provide a quality education to the children of our state. This week’s education reform bills increase parental involvement, as well as the transparency and accountability of our schools. Most importantly, these bills put children and parents first,” said Rep. Horlacher.
The Assembly approved a package that includes the ‘Parental Bill of Rights’ that establishes several parental rights relating to decisions regarding a child’s religion, medical care, records and education. The package creates uniform standards for school accountability reports, a parental opt-out from face coverings in school buildings, and a requirement for schools to offer children a full-time, in-person learning option. The Assembly also expanded school choice by eliminating income limits for parental choice programs.
“Parents have the right to choose the educational option that is best for their child, and parents deserve a larger say in the education they receive. The bills passed on Tuesday support parents and provide them with the tools they need to play an active role in ensuring their child receives a quality education.”
The legislative package now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
Rep. Cody Horlacher represents the 33rd Assembly District, serving the communities of Eagle, Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Mukwonago, and Palmyra.
