Jefferson County Emergency Management director announces area cooling shelters 

Jefferson County Emergency Management Director Donna Haugom has announced that eight buildings throughout Jefferson County are officially considered cooling shelters in 2023.

Shelters are found in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Johnson Creek, Lake Mills, Waterloo, and Watertown. 

Locations are as follow:

Fort Atkinson

• Dwight Foster Public Library, 209 Merchants Ave., hours of operation are Mondays through Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Fort Atkinson Senior Center, 307 Robert St., hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

Jefferson

• Metroflex Gym Lobby, 1417 Industrial Ave., hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

• Jefferson Public Library, 321 S. Main St., hours of operation are Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Sundays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hours change after Labor Day and are Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays, no change, and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Johnson Creek

• Johnson Creek Public Library, 125 Lincoln St., hours of operation are Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.

Lake Mills

• LD Fargo Public Library, 120 E. Madison St., hours of operation are Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays, 9 a.m.  to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Waterloo

• Karl Junginger Memorial Library, 625 N. Monroe St., Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Watertown

• Watertown Public Library, 100 S. Water St., hours of operation are Mondays through Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 4 p.m.
