Johnson: Highway 59, school bus safety among topics he’s discussing with transportation secretary

Editor’s note: The following commentary has been released for publication by the office of State Rep. Scott Johnson.

Rep. Scott Johnson, R-Jefferson, of the 33rd Assembly District announced Thursday that he has met with Department of Transportation Secretary Craig Thompson to discuss “a major highway project” within the district.

Within the release, Johnson offered the following comments:

I was very grateful to the secretary for taking the time to meet with me so I could inform him of the issue on Highway 59. In the near future, housing developments will be a reality along with an already very busy road corridor for transportation resulting from summer recreation.

Secretary Thompson understood that my main priority with regard to this project and any road construction job in our state is safety. I believe that is his priority as well.

One of the pillars of my campaign for this office was to address the crumbling infrastructure in our state. We must fix our roads and bridges while making certain we are providing efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable solutions to these problems.

I look forward to continuing a positive, professional relationship with the secretary and his staff, especially with regard to work that impacts school bus safety.

The 33rd Assembly District, represented by Scott Johnson, R-Jefferson, includes the communities, in part or full, of Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Milton, Helenville, Hebron, Sullivan, Oakland and Palmyra. A portion of the city of Whitewater, which resides in Jefferson County, also is included.
