Judith “Judy” Ann Block passed away peacefully on Thursday July 4th at her home after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. She was born on Nov. 15th 1940 to Merlin (Stub) and Martha (nee Lucas) Messmer in Edgerton WI.
Judy graduated from Edgerton High School in 1958. She attended UW-Whitewater and graduated with a degree in education in 1962.
She married Harlow Block on June 13th 1964 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Atkinson. She is survived by their three children, Barry Block of Fort Atkinson, Holly Block (Lee Henning) of Edgerton and Jamey Block (Jamy Knaack) of Edgerton. She has two grandchildren Dylan and Rhiley Block of Fort Atkinson.
She taught in the Edgerton School District for a several years after graduation and getting married. She took a break to raise her family and worked part time at Highsmith in the evenings. Judy returned to UW-Whitewater and completed her master’s degree in education and personal development. She finished her teaching career at Fort Atkinson School District as a reading specialist with retirement in 2003.
After retirement Judy traveled to many places, a tour of New England, trips to Alaska, Florida and a train ride out west just to name a few. She enjoyed some international travel as well with trips to Germany for Oktoberfest and St Patrick’s Day in Ireland.
In her spare time after retirement Judy enjoyed playing Farkle with her Farkle ladies group and her number of euchre clubs and most recently bingo. She was very competitive at any game she played. She also enjoyed a good Friday night fish fry with family or friends.
Judy was proceeded in death by her husband Harlow, her parents Merlin & Martha Messmer, brother Richard Messmer and sister Betty Munro and brother-in-law Robert Block.
Judy is survived by many other family members and a great number of friends.
Services will be held at Dunlap Memorial Home at 11:00am on Tuesday July 23rd 2024. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service from 10:00am until the time of service. A private family burial will take place at a later date. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rainbow Hospice of Jefferson County or the Wounded Warrior Project in Judy’s name.
