The School District of Fort Atkinson has announced that Katie Field has been named February Rotary Teacher of the Month.
According to information released by the district on Tuesday, Field is a math teacher at the Fort Atkinson High School.
She was presented with the honor on Monday.
Information provided by Fort Atkinson High School Principal Leigh Ann Scheuerell, who spoke about Field during the Fort Atkinson Rotary Club’s Monday meeting, stated that the honoree has been employed with the district since 2014.
“A unique point of pride in her career is that she has taught math to students from first through twelfth grade, and while she loves all of it, she especially loves teaching AP Calculus,” Scheuerell noted in her Rotary presentation.
Within her remarks, Scheuerell described Field as a “gift to our students and staff,” further noting that the teacher “represents the very best in teaching and learning.”
She additionally described Field as someone who has “chosen the right field and is doing exactly what they are meant to be doing.”
Scheuerell added: “Katie puts everything she has into being a math teacher and does whatever it takes to support and help students succeed.”
She said Field exhibits a “high level of professionalism” while doing a “difficult job.”
Additionally, Scheuerell noted, Field serves as the department leader of the high school math team, where she is involved with “working through department needs, hiring new staff,” and “building and managing the budget of the math team.”
“She makes decisions in the best interest of students and her team, and is extremely organized and quick to respond,” the principal said.
According to Scheuerell, Field is a lifelong learner, who is pursuing her master’s degree in mathematics in education. She is anticipated to complete work required to obtain that degree in November.
While at the high school, for the past five years, Field also has served as an assistant boys volleyball coach.
Scheuerell listed Field’s hobbies as trout fishing, reading, playing volleyball, riding her bike and kayaking.
Field is married to her husband, Trevor. The couple has two children: Samantha, who is working towards a PhD in biomedical engineering at the University of Michigan, and Jacob, who recently married and is a police officer in Oshkosh.
