Letter to the editor:

Recently I attended the Whitewater School Board open forum at Whitewater City Hall to listen to six candidates running for the Whitewater School Board. I was especially impressed with Joe Kromholz as he spoke about the current Whitewater School District (WSD) policies supporting equity and inclusion in the WSD.  As a practicing attorney he will clearly advocate for the teachers, administration, and diverse student population. His ability to competently address the needs of WSD was clearly demonstrated and I believe he will make an excellent WSD board member.

Thayer Coburn will also continue to competently serve WSD if re-elected to the Whitewater School Board. As the current Whitewater School Board President, Thayer Coburn has demonstrated his commitment to ethically and judiciously serving WSD teachers, administrators and the diverse student population in an equitable manner. His ability to actively listen, reflect upon and seek professional/community input and involvement in a wide range of issues impacting WSD was clearly demonstrated.

Lisa Huempfner was also impressive, bringing a long-standing commitment to seeking understanding, empathy and advocacy to the Latino community as a professor in the UW-Whitewater Spanish department. Her research and commitment to serving the Latino community will greatly enhance the effectiveness of WSD addressing the curricular needs and outcomes sought for ALL WSD students. She also clearly demonstrated her understanding of the significant mental health issues facing many WSD students, reflective of the current teen mental health crisis nation-wide.

In the hope of a bright future for all WSD students,

Tim G. Reutebuch
