Linda Lorraine (Skeman) Wintermute, 79 of Fort Atkinson, passed away in her home on Sunday July 7th 2024.
Linda was born on August 14th 1944 to the late Melvin Daniel Skeman and Ila Ruth (Foust) Skeman in Brighton, Michigan.
Linda graduated from high school in Brighton and was a long-standing member of the Brighton Alumni. She attended nursing school in Ann Arbor and became an LPN. After working as a nurse for a while she decided she wanted to join the Army. After completing basic training, and then completing AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas she served at Fort Stewart, Georgia from May of 1969 till July of 1971. She was the NCOIC (Non-Commisioned Officer In Charge) of the aviation dispensary.
She met her “soon to be” husband, James Woodrow Wintermute, while stationed at Fort Stewart. They were married on May 15th 1971 at Fort Stewart in Chapel-3. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary.
Linda was a big Brewers fan and attended several of their games in Milwaukee. She was an avid traveler, taking numerous trips with her dad. She was a lifelong girl scout leader and attended several leaders outings. She also bowled for many years in a women’s league and in a mixed couples league with her husband James.
Surviving are her husband James, two daughters, Kelly and Robin, and five grandchildren, Ila, Travis, Bethany, Jacob and Ryan. She also has a sister living in Michigan, Melanie Wollenhaupt.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. on Friday until the time of service. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
