‘Momentary’ power outage attributed to squirrel, says utility company

Many Fort Atkinson residents experienced flickering lights this morning when a squirrel apparently came in contact with electrical equipment.

Alison Trouy of We Energies said at 9 a.m. Monday that crews were on the scene investigating what took place.

“There was a momentary outage at 8:30 a.m. and we do believe a squirrel came in contact with equipment,” Trouy said. “We’re on the scene investigating to see if any damage was done.”

While Trouy did not yet know the location of the incident, residents in the area of East Street reportedly heard a loud noise and some saw smoke from a small fire on an electrical pole. They said the power went off for a few minutes and then back on.

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department also responded to the scene.
