The National Weather Service on Sunday issued a warning after spotters confirmed a tornado on the ground “north and south of the Fort Atkinson area,” according to information provided on the agency’s website.
Information found on the agency’s website noted that the spotters confirmed tornados after the agency reported that at 5:39 p.m. “tornado producing storms were located along a line extending from near Lake Ripley to near Whitewater, moving northeast at 40 mph (miles per hour).”
The agency issued a tornado warning for northwestern Walworth County, southwestern Waukesha County, and Jefferson County.
According to a map, also created by the National Weather Service, which offers information about weather events designated by storm type and location, as of Monday, two of Sunday’s storms, both of which were reported in Jefferson County, were categorized as tornados, and two more, both of which were reported in Rock County, were categorized as wind damage.

A storm map produced by the agency shows an incident in rural Jefferson County, near County Road K, described as a “tornado” reported at 5:36 p.m., with a notation of “probable tornado. A few trees down.” As of Monday, a storm “magnitude” was not yet reported on the map.
Also carrying a description of “tornado,” the map shows a storm west-northwest of Whitewater, reported Sunday at 5:35 p.m., with a notation of “tornado on the ground northwest of Whitewater.” A “magnitude” has not yet been listed. The storm was located near U.S. Highway 12 in Jefferson County near the borders of Rock and Walworth counties.

Additionally, the map shows storm activity reported Sunday and described as a “wind damage” at 5:21 p.m. near Milton, with a notation of “numerous downed trees around Milton. Pictures of siding damage to an apartment building around the intersection of Madison Avenue and Northside Drive. Report relayed via social media and timing estimated based off of radar.”
Also near Milton, the map shows additional wind damage sustained Sunday at 5:24 p.m., with reports of “trees uprooted or snapped.”
