The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce has announced that Wedl’s Hamburger Stand and Ice Cream Parlor has joined as a new member.
According to information released by the chamber, the “fast-casual” Jefferson-based eatery opened in 1916 and soon gained renown for its “classic slider-style” hamburgers and cheeseburgers. Burgers continued to be served with fried onions and pickles, and on a warm bun.
Located on the corner in Jefferson of Racine Street and Center Avenue, the building boasts a nostalgic 1950s atmosphere which has become popular with residents and tourists alike, the release noted.
In addition to the burger stand, the business also includes a detached ice cream parlor that serves a wide variety of flavors and offers indoor seating, the release stated.
Robby and Shandell Wedl purchased the business from Robby’s parents this year, and Robby’s parents have owned it since 2006.
Robby’s parents purchased the hamburger stand from Bill Peterson, but Robby was already employed there. He started working at the stand in 2002 when he was still in high school, making 2023 his 21st season working at Wedl’s, the release continued.
Looking toward the future, according to the release, Robby and Shandell hope one day they will pass the business along to one of the their four children.
Offering a dine-in experience, Wedl’s, 200 E. Racine St., Jefferson, is open Tuesdays through Thursdays, and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The stand is closed on Mondays.
For more information about the stand, visit its website: www.wedlshamburgerstand.com or call 920-674-3637.
Husband and wife Shandell and Robby Wedl display their Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce new member plaque. Even though Robby has worked at the stand since he was in high school, and his parents have owned the eatery since 2006, for the couple, 2023 marks something new: this is their first season as the restaurant’s owners.
