Whitewater, Evansville photographers’ work featured in 2023 Discover Wisconsin calendar

Discover Wisconsin TV, in partnership with the Wisconsin Counties Association, has announced the winners of this year’s annual photo contest.

The winning photos will be included in the Discover Wisconsin 2023 Calendar, according to a recent news release.

Among this year’s winners are David Abb, whose photo titled: “Reflections of a Barn,” was taken in Evansville, and Whitewater resident Fletcher Crone, who entered a photo titled: “The Night Before Harvest.”

According to the release, Abb’s photo will represent April and Crone’s photo will represent June.

Each photo was accompanied by a description, with Abb writing that his photo was taken in early spring on his favorite road in Rock County: Weary Road.

Crone noted that his photo was captured late summer, further noting that “sun paints golden light onto the barns and hillsides of southwestern Wisconsin.”

According to the release, Discover Wisconsin is the nation’s longest-running travel and tourism TV series. The popular photo contest was launched via social media in March 2022.

Entries were accepted until May. The contest received more than 1,000 entries, according to the release.

Following the submission and voting period, the Discover Wisconsin crew selected the top 12 photos. Of the top 12, they chose the photo to be featured on the cover of the calendar, the release stated, adding that the 2023 calendar cover photo was taken by Green Bay resident Nik Thyrion.

His photo titled: “Wisconsin: The Sunrise State,” captured a sunrise from a morning at Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, the release stated. The cover photo also will be used to represent the month of March.

“The beauty across Wisconsin is incredibly unique and diverse, with a wide range of spectacular landscapes, wildlife and structures. So many of the entries we received this year were absolutely stunning. You can’t help but be inspired to get out and discover more first-hand and in any season. Thank you to all our fans who submitted, and who keep us wanting to search for and showcase these hidden gems…and congrats to this year’s winners,” Nicole Martin, brand manager of Discover Wisconsin, was quoted as saying in the release.
