The Irvin L. Young Library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, has announced upcoming programs for both adults and youth.
A list of programming follows:
• At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, Anders Morley will present a virtual program titled “This Land of Snow: A Journey Across the North in Winter.”
Registration is required by visiting whitewaterlibrary.org.
Every journey begins with a single step, or in Morley’s case, the shush of cross-country skis. For as long as he could remember, Morley says, he dreamed of taking a very long walk. In his thirties, happily married and living in a faraway country but pining for the silent and snowy winters of his New Hampshire home, he decided to unite his old dream with his equally longstanding love of winter.
Fourteen months later, just as the snow was starting to fall, he set off alone to spend the four coldest months of the year traveling on skis across the half-wild country of northwestern Canada.
• A Comic Book Heroes Teen Art Workshop will be held in the community room at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Register at whitewaterlibrary.org by Jan. 17.
Do you enjoy comic books? Superheroes? Costume design? Fashion? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions then this workshop is for you. Students grades 6-12 are invited to work with fashion textiles and superhero templates to design a one-of-a-kind superhero. This program will be presented by Mad Science Milwaukee.
• “Che-Mystery: Mad Science Workshop for Teens” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the library’s community room.
Presented by Mad Science Milwaukee, this program is for middle and high school students.
Registration is required by Feb. 7 at whitewaterlibrary.org.
Eliminate the mystery in chemistry. Is it a chemical or physical change? You decide as you explore one of the most exciting and fundamental sciences. Watch as sand floats on top of water and take home your own crystal garden.
• Stress-Less Saturdays for students in grade 6-12 offers teens and tweens time to de-stress and decompress. Activities vary, and snacks are available. No registration is required.
The 1 p.m. programs follow: Jan. 8, Button Making; Jan. 22, Therapy Dogs; Feb. 5, Shrink Art; Feb. 19, Design a Notebook.
• Winter Storytime for children up to 5 years old takes place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 19 through March 9.
The library also offers stories and songs during its Storytime, which, released information stated: “is a great place for children to develop pre-reading skills. Plus, it’s free fun for kids and caregivers alike.”
Registration is required and can be completed on the website homepage.
