Fort Atkinson-based Hoard’s Dairyman Farm Creamery was among dairy manufacturers from across the state submitting entries for the 2021 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest. The event was held June 24 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.
Some 417 entries were submitted, according to information recently released by the Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board. The Hoard’s Dairyman Farm Creamery, which, a company spokesman told Fort Atkinson Online, is operating in its fourth year, received recognition in two categories: “Open Class — Semi-Soft Cheese,” where it received the distinction of “top entry” for its Port Salute style made with Guernsey milk, and “Gouda and Edam,” a category in which it received “top entry” recognition for Gouda made with Guernsey milk.
According to the release, the contest featured 49 classes, including new classes for cheese curds, custard, and edam and gouda.
The 2021 Grand Master Cheesemaker, Grand Champion Butter, Grand Champion Yogurt, Grand Champion Sour Cream and Grand Champion Milk will be announced at the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction on Thursday, Aug. 12, at Wisconsin State Fair Park. The Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction is a fundraiser for the Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Promotion Board. Auction proceeds fund scholarships for students pursuing dairy-related degrees and support the board’s interactive educational display – Dairy Lane – introduced in 2019 and located in the Lower Dairy Barn at Wisconsin State Fair Park.
