Fort Atkinson High School juniors and seniors arrived Saturday at McGrath’s Skate and Events hall in Fort Atkinson to participate in “Prom 2024 Masquerade.”

Prom typically is held at the high school, Assistant Principal Jeff Dye said. This year, the junior class was eager to try an off-campus venue. After a visit to the venue made by students and the school’s administration, plans were set in motion to give the idea a try.

Dye said prom is open to juniors and seniors, with this year’s junior class totaling some 225 students and the senior class totaling approximately 260.

In advance of the prom, some 231 tickets were sold, he said, adding that a large number of students were anticipated to buy tickets at the door.

The event included a Grand March, during which some 28 groups of students walked across a stage and posed for photographs. The Grand March was made available to parents and friends through live streaming. Parents also were invited to watch the Grand March in person.

After the Grand March, parents and other guests were asked to exit the premises as the dance got underway, with the doors closing for the night at 9 p.m. After the doors closed, Dye said, students could leave, but they would not be allowed to reenter the venue.

This year, music, along with lights and a smoke machine, was provided by Milwaukee-based DJ James Jaxin.

Additionally, Dye said, eight members of the school’s staff were on hand to serve as chaperones, operating in two shifts.

The dance ended at 11 p.m.

The Grand March

Some 28 groups of students on Saturday made their way across the Grand March stage. As they approached the stage, each group of students presented a card with their names, which, in some cases were spelled phonetically to aid an announcer with pronunciation. The cards served as a source of identification for the Grand March photographs. Student’s are not necessarily named within each photograph in the order in which they appear. If a student’s name has been incorrectly spelled, please contact us by email: staff@fortatkinsononline.com, and we will make the appropriate correction.
