30th Annual Ernie Pope Art Show opens May 17 (Update: date change)

Update: While posters for the 30th Annual Ernie Pope Art Show note the show’s opening as May 17, organizers have updated its start date to May 18 to allow for time to install art on Main Street. Please note the change of date.

The 30th Annual Ernie Pope Art Show, featuring student art, will open virtually this year on May 17, according to a recent press release.

The show will look different from past years, show organizer and School District of Fort Atkinson art educator Angie Szabo noted in a recent press release.

“The art will be hung in the windows of participating businesses on Main Street to allow our community to safely view student art by walking our Main Street,” Szabo said.

Businesses along six Main Street blocks will be participating in the show by displaying art in their windows, she added.

Another new feature of the show is a “popular choice” recognition given to work receiving the most votes through a link on the school district’s website, 1fort.com.

“Our teachers have been working hard in conjunction with the (Fort Atkinson Area) Chamber of Commerce to connect to downtown businesses, making plans to hang work in their windows,” Szabo said.

The show will begin May 17, with art hung in windows between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m., with help from district art staff and students from the National Art Honor Society, Szabo continued.

A closing reception will be held June 1, at 5:30 p.m. in Barrie Park.

“We will celebrate all of our student as this time, and also announce student’s whose work has received special recognition,” she said.

In preparation of the show, Szabo said: “In the coming weeks art teachers will be selecting works, notifying students, prepping work for display, and making plans on how to display work in their assigned businesses.”

Businesses participating in the event include: Cold Spring Design, Rock River Optical, Piper Mae, Feather Your Nest, Bergey Jewelry, Humphrey Floral and Gifts, Big Bluestem, Tuttles Hallmark, Hometown Pharmacy, Edward Jones, JM Carpet, Bridge/Good2Go, Mike Foester Real Estate, Rogers and Westrick Law Office, Krueger Jeweler, Enlightened Healing, Margraf Collection Agency, Bare’s Fort Tax Service, Inc, Five Star Antiques Mall, and Verlo Mattress of Fort Atkinson.
