Fort Police Department 23-year veteran Lange retires

A 23-year veteran of the Fort Atkinson Police Department, Capt. Chad Lange retired Friday, according to information released by Fort Atkinson Police Chief Adrian Bump. 

The department hosted a “get together” in celebration of his years of service, the release noted. 

According to the release, Lange was hired by the Fort Atkinson Police Department Sept. 5, 2000, and began by attending the 10-week Law Enforcement Academy at MATC. Prior to his employment at the department, Lange served his country in the United States Army from August 1990 to April 1996. 

Lange initially served as a patrol officer and soon after was promoted to field training officer (FT0). 

He has since remained an integral part of the FTO team, the release stated. 

Additionally, the release reported, Lange ran the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program from 2005 to 2010. In 2008, Lange earned the Jefferson County Officer of the Year award for his part in saving a woman who fell into an area river during heavy flooding. 

In October of 2010, Lange was promoted to lieutenant, serving as the second shift supervisor the remainder of his career. 

In January 2018, Lange was promoted to the rank of captain. 

“Under his watch, he supervised the FTO program, managed scheduling and payroll, served as the special events coordinator and the municipal court officer, all while managing the very busy second shift,” the release stated.  

“Captain Lange’s career has been so successful because of his sound judgement, compassion for others and his ability to stay positive throughout his career. Captain Lange impacted countless lives of citizens and colleagues over the years and will be dearly missed by his law enforcement family,” Bump was quoted as saying in the release.  

Lange plans to enjoy retirement in Florida with his wife Veronica and their dog Niko, the release noted.
