Rep. Scott Johnson released a statement Thursday regarding two public safety bills taken up by the state Legislature.
Johnson, R-Hebron, represents Assembly District 33, which includes the cities of Fort Atkinson, Jefferson and Milton, parts of the city of Janesville, and the villages of Palmyra and Sullivan.
Johnson noted that the legislation “will assist efforts in the interest of public safety.”
Within his statement, Johnson wrote: “Myself and colleagues of mine voted on bills that will tackle reckless driving, a mandatory sentence for felons who possess a firearm, and mandating a prosecutor get a court’s approval to dismiss or amend certain criminal charges. We also passed legislation that allows DACA recipients to become patrol officers, game wardens, and corrections officers.
“Our communities need to see that action is being taken to address the onslaught of crimes being committed throughout our state. The days of doing nothing are over. Much more needs to be done, but for now these are big steps in the right direction.”

Does anyone know how many people in Jefferson County are prosecuted for:
–reckless driving
–felon possessing a firearm
–these ‘certain’ criminal charges?
As important as these concerns are, we need to make sure that our Jefferson County representatives are focusing on problems in our county, not problems mostly affecting other counties. Of course, voting is important, but it doesn’t take much time.
