Fort Atkinson resident David Firari continues his 2,200-mile adventure hiking on the Appalachian Trail.
In this, his second video update shared with Fort Atkinson Online, Firari has returned to the trail after a second visit home to Fort Atkinson to receive medical treatments for Crohn’s disease and is moving through Virginia.
In February, readers may recall, Firari told FAO that he wanted to hike the full trail. New to through-trail hiking, he spent a year researching the trail, procuring equipment, doing “shakedown hikes,” and set off on his adventure. Firari also shared that he has Crohn’s disease. To accomplish his hiking dream, his parents, Keith and Martha Firari, will meet him at intervals along the trail and return him to Fort Atkinson for his prescribed medical treatments, then return him to the point on the trail where they picked him up.
Firari anticipates that his six-month journey, beginning in Georgia, will take him through 14 states before it concludes in Maine. Here, in video, is his second report about his adventures from along the Appalachian Trail.
