Edgerton’s Tobacco Heritage Days weekend kicks off Friday

Edgerton’s traditional three-day Tobacco Heritage Days celebration will be held Friday, July 14, through Sunday, July 16, according to information released by the event’s organizers.

The event, and its myriad activities, centers around the city’s Racetrack Park, 1000 Stoughton Street, with other activities planned to take place in the city’s downtown area.

The price of admission to Racetrack Park is $20 at the gate for those 18 and older. The price allows event-goers to purchase a weekend wristband. Children under the age of 18 are admitted into the park free of charge.

According to the event’s website, proceeds earned during the festival are used to benefit “local groups, scholarships, causes and community improvements which are decided on by the Tobacco Heritage Days committee.”

This year, event-goers can expect to find a citywide rummage sale on Friday, beginning at 8 a.m., along with little league, and men’s and women’s softball tournaments and games, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. Live music will be provided by “The CarTunes,” the website states. The band will play between 7:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Saturday’s event schedule begins with a citywide rummage sale at 8 a.m., followed by downtown activities which include a car and truck show, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., and a pie and ice cream social. The treats will be served in front of the city’s downtown depot from 9 a.m. until they are sold out.

A coin toss will be held at 2:15 p.m. at the city’s public pool.

Saturday’s events in Racetrack Park include a men’s softball tournament and a “Rascal Run,” both of which will begin at 8 a.m., and a trap shoot, which will begin at 9 a.m.

In addition, an “Edgerton Clay Day, Art and Pottery Festival” will be held between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Activities continue with a “Big Wheel Race,” beginning at 10 a.m., and a Lip Sync and talent show scheduled to take place on the “side stage” at 11 a.m.

A “tobacco plant judging” opportunity will be held at noon.

Afternoon events include a little league tournament, and a kids pedal tractor pull, starting at 1 p.m., along with several “fast pitch” softball games beginning at 2 p.m. A “varsity” baseball game between Edgerton and Milton will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday’s live music headliner is Easton Corbin, who will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.

Sunday’s downtown activities begin with a parade at 11:30 a.m.
