Shirley Ann Powell, age 79 of Johnson Creek passed away surrounded by family at Froedtert Hospital on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Shirley was born in Junction City, Kansas on July 20, 1944, to Arnold and Brigetta Traska. They moved to Wisconsin and Shirley attended school in Rothschild, graduating from DC Everest High School in 1962. She attended UW-Madison and received a Bachelors degree in Dietetics. She worked as a registered dietitian at Fort Memorial Hospital for 21 years.
Shirley married George Powell on May 1, 1971, in Rothschild, Wisconsin. They moved several times throughout Wisconsin including Weston, Lake Mills, Lake Geneva, Janesville, and Johnson Creek.
Her hobbies included quilting and reading; especially romance, science fiction and fantasy novels. She also enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
Shirley is survived by her children; Kandis (Tom) Sullivan of Rothschild, WI, Mark (Barbara) Powell of Newville, WI, and Diedra (Stacy) Meyer of Pigeon Falls, WI; siblings Terrance (Jill) Traskaof Wausau, WI, Kermit (Beth) Traska of Oregon, WI, Tom Traska of Wausau, WI, Robert (Lois) Traska of Jackson, WI and Betsy Trzebiatowski of Weston, WI; grandchildren Megan (Jeremy) Kratwell of Wausau, WI, Amanda Powell of Edgerton, WI and Jamie Powell of Milton, WI; and great-grandchildren Ryleigh, Regan, Rory, Lydia, Landen, Lola and Lilly; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Charles Traska, sister-in-law Joyce Traska and brother-in-law David Trzebiatowski.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Schneider-Michaelis Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation will be held from 10:30 AM until time of service.
