Members of the Fort Atkinson Lions Club recently made ready at least two park spaces within the city for the upcoming winter, according to information released by the club.
Club members were on hand “last week,” the release stated, at which time they “put the parks to bed,” the release noted, describing activities as involving cleanup, along with some gardening care, such as shrub-trimming, weed-pulling, and the raking of fallen leaves.
The activity took place at the Armory, Bark River Drive, and in Lions Park, Janesville Avenue.
The release identified “the environment” as one of the causes embraced by the Lions Clubs International, with club members working to “creates healthier communities and a more sustainable world,” the release stated.
“Signage proclaiming ‘Lions at Work’” was on display as people drove past both cleanup sites, the release continued.
According to the release, “maintaining the local parks has been a project of (Lions Club members) for decades. Members dedicate their time to keeping the parks attractive for the residents and visitors. Any cost of maintenance, such as bark or new greenery, are covered by the club and is not a burden on the city or its budget. In fact, the fort at the armory was the work of the 2001-2002 ‘Project Lead’ class with donations from the Fort Atkinson Lions Club and others.”
Project Lead is a program, which, in past years and through the assemblage of a group of volunteers, has produced an improvement project within the city annually. The program is facilitated through the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce.
As noted in the release, “the Fort Atkinson Lions Club is one of the longest continually operating clubs, serving the community for over 90 years.” To learn more about the club, visit its website: www.eclubhouse.org/sites/fortatkinson, find it on Facebook or call the its membership chair Kevin Becker: 920-650-8005.
