Jefferson County Christmas Neighbors program seeks ‘Adopt-a-Family’ sponsors

Jefferson County Christmas Neighbors “Adopt-a-Family” program organizers have announced that they are in need of additional sponsors to help match need this holiday season.

According to information released by organizers, the program matches families in Jefferson County in need with sponsors, who then provide gifts and food to the one or more families they choose to adopt.

Describing the program, the release stated that “It basically involves buying a gift for each child in the family you adopt and buying food or a gift certificate for a Christmas meal.”

There are some 50 families who have applied to the program for adoption and remain without sponsors, the release noted.

Individuals, families, businesses, churches, neighborhoods or organizations can serve as sponsors, the release stated, adding that groups can “work together to provide for those that need help this year.”

A volunteer will be on hand to receive phone calls from those who wish to adopt a family, fill out an application form or learn more about the program. The volunteer can be reached by calling: 920-674-4499.

The volunteer will be made available Mondays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Applications for adopting families close on Tuesday, Dec. 5, according to the release.

The program also accepts monetary donations. A check may be sent to P.O. Box 177, Jefferson, WI, 53549.

Donations can be made online by visiting the program’s website: www.christmasneighbors.org.

Donations of new and used toys, hats, mittens, scarves, blankets, wrapping paper and children’s clothes also are accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 12. The items may be dropped off at the Jefferson County Fair Park, 503 N. Jackson Ave., Jefferson, or at any of the following locations: Premier or Badger Bank, Fort Community Credit Union, City County Credit Union, U.S. Cellular in Jefferson, Jefferson Memory Care and Theisens, the release stated.
