School district: summer maintenance, renovation projects underway

School District of Fort Atkinson officials have noted recently that several of the district’s summer projects are underway.

Projects include maintenance and renovations at all four of the district’s elementary schools.

According to information released by the district earlier this month, the improvements underway this summer were made possible through resources obtained following the public’s support of the November 2022 capital referendum.

District officials noted within their release that student safety “remains paramount” as improvements are made. They include secure entrances and modern alarm systems, the release stated.

Among mechanical upgrades, this summer, the district’s elementary school buildings will see HVAC improvements, which, the release noted, will “ensure a more energy-efficient and reliable environment for optimal learning conditions.

“These efficiency upgrades not only benefit taxpayer savings but also contribute to sustainable practices. By updating major maintenance items and facilities, we honor our educational heritage while equipping our schools to meet the needs of today’s learners effectively.”

Additionally, the release stated: “All summer projects were included in the scope of work approved by voters in the November 2022 capital referendum. The projects enhance school facilities and improve security to help provide students with the best possible learning environments.”

“We are grateful for our supportive and generous 1Fort community for making these critical facilities projects possible. This support is helping to continue our legacy of excellence in education,” Rob Abbott, superintendent of the Fort Atkinson School District, was quoted as saying in the release.

Students will return to classes on Sept. 4, the release continued.

Weekly updates about projects underway within the district will be made available through the district’s social media pages, the release read.
