Local author to read from book about life experiences, importance of pets

The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library in Whitewater will feature local author Peggy Race in a virtual program Thursday, Sept. 23.

At 6 p.m. on Zoom, Race will discuss and read from her book, “Desiree: The Music of My Soul.”

In order to get the link to the program an hour before it begins, the public may register on the library’s website at  www.whitewaterlibrary.org.

Race’s first memoir, Desiree, The Music Of My Soul” was released by independent publisher Black Rose Writing.

In it, she shares her battle to overcome a failed marriage, the sudden loss of her second husband and her own self-doubts. While sandwiched between each layer of uncertainty, she fights her way forward through the love of her dogs.

Race grew up on a dairy farm in Palmyra, where she cultivated an appreciation for nature and a love for animals. She spreads her seeds of hope through advocacy, fostering and her writing.

The author today resides with her dogs, Faith, a ball-herding border collie, and Deputy, a puppy mill rescue. She carries a treasure chest filled with memories of her rescued Hurricane Katrina dog, Desiree.

She is a volunteer with Bailing Out Benji, an organization which educates about puppy mills and the connection to pet stores.
