Fort teacher named WAEA Outstanding Secondary Art Educator Award winner

The School District of Fort Atkinson has announced that Frank Korb has been selected as an Outstanding Secondary Art Educator Award winner. Korb was selected for the award by the Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA), according to a recent press release.

The the award is given to a WAEA member from each division — elementary, middle, secondary, higher education, supervision/administration, private education, retired and museum education —  who has significantly contributed in that division, in art education on the local, state and/or national levels, according to the release.

“Frank is truly a dedicated and motivated leader, taking on additional roles and responsibilities beyond that of an everyday art instructor. His role in state-level organizations, including regional leadership as the Southeastern Wisconsin regional vice president and statewide leadership as the Youth Art Month chairperson for two years, puts him in a network that continues to expand opportunities for our students,” Fort Atkinson High School Principle Dan Halvorsen was quoted as saying within the release.

Halvorsen continued: “Aside from having one of our student’s artwork proudly displayed in the state governor’s office, he increased awareness in public forums and the political arena of the continued need of focus to expand the arts in our everyday lives. His classroom work and drive to bring the 21st century into the classroom is beyond admirable and his students recognize and appreciate the work he has done during a pandemic and beyond.

“In addition, Frank can be witnessed constantly striving to remain technologically advanced and relevant to ensure the success of our programs through his Google Certified Educator Level 1 (certification).”

Halversen went on to say that Korb is seeking his Level 2 certification.

Korb’s collaboration with other high school staff members has helped distinguish the high school as being the first building in the district in which all of its staff is Google 1 certified, Halversen said.

Korb will be honored during the WAEA annual conference which will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Hotel Mead and Conference Center’s Grand Ballroom, Grand Rapids, Wis.
