The Black Hawk Artists will kick off their 48th annual show with a reception Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson, according to a recent press release.
The public is invited to the event, which takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring the theme “Full Circle.”
Thirteen artists will be exhibiting and selling works in media ranging from alcohol ink, Ebru marbling and felting to collage, jewelry making, sculpture and more, according to the release.
The show will continue through Thursday, Nov. 18. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Featured artists include Angie Szabo, Sally Koehler, Mary Pratt, Karen Gomez, Karen Crosby, Judith Henning, Priscilla Heussner, Jan Holewinski, Linda Tump, Janet Nelson, Julia Ince, Mary Wallace and Jan Gilkey.
In addition, the artists will be remembering longtime member Kim Karow, who passed away Aug. 8, 2020, at the age of 56, the release stated.
Karow had finished her theme piece prior to her death, and it will be exhibited on the theme walls during the show. In addition, there will be a memorial featuring a variety of her new work.
As noted in the release, the majority of Karow’s art was in two-dimensional media, particularly silverpoint drawing. Her interest in biological sciences, especially botany and ecology, provided source material for her artwork.
Karow graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in elementary and art education and later earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from UW-Whitewater.
She was employed as an elementary art teacher in the School District of Janesville for more than two decades.
The Black Hawk Artists meet monthly to critique each other’s work and plan their annual show. Each year, they challenge each other to illustrate a particular theme for their show, as well as produce at least three new works for exhibit, the released continued.
The Hoard Historical Museum is located at 401 Whitewater Avenue in Fort Atkinson. There is no admission charge, however, donations are appreciated.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, facemasks are required when visiting the museum. Disposable masks are available if needed.
