The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation has announced that it is accepting online applications for a variety of scholarships available to Fort Atkinson students.
Eleven scholarships are available to high school graduating seniors without regard to field of study.
Additionally, four scholarships are open only to vocational or technical college students, according to the information released by the foundation.

Eleven scholarships for which graduating high school seniors may now apply include:
• Walter and Louise Buell Merit Scholarship: The Buell Merit scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who are residents of the Fort Atkinson area, have an outstanding academic record, and who are planning to enroll in a program leading to a bachelor’s degree. As a merit scholarship, financial need is not considered. For 2022, two scholarships of $22,000 each, paid out over four years, will be available.
• Theodore W. Batterman Family Foundation Scholarship: The Batterman scholarships are available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who are among the top students in their class, have engaged in community or school service, and are pursuing an undergraduate degree at a recognized college or university. For 2022, five scholarships of $12,000 each, paid out over four years, will be available.
• Richard Noel Bingham Memorial Scholarship: The Bingham Scholarships are available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School who intend to continue their education at a four-year college or university. In 2022 there will be $54,000 available for multiple awards payable over four years.
• Dr. Sydney H. Weidemann Scholarship: Dr. Weidemann, a prominent dentist and buisness leader in Fort Atkinson for many years, created this scholarship for graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who plan to attend an accredited public or private college or university. For 2022, $6,000 will be available for two awards.
• Make A Difference Scholarship: The Make A Difference Scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who have made a difference in the lives of others. A supplemental essay and additional letter of reference are required. For 2022, $5,000 is available for a two-year award.
• Dr. James Russell Athletic Scholarship: The Russell Athletic scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who have earned a minimum of two varsity letters while participating in two or more sports and who are pursuing either a two-year associate degree or four-year bachelor’s degree. For 2022, $5,000 will be available for two or more awards.
• James and Francis Luther Memorial Scholarship: The Luther Memorial scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who plan to attend a four-year college in the University of Wisconsin system. For 2022, $5,000 will be available for one or more awards.
• Fort Atkinson Thrift Shop and Jean Reich Memorial Scholarship: The Thrift Shop and Reich Memorial scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Fort Atkinson High School who plan to attend a college or vocational/technical school in Wisconsin. Financial need is a serious consideration for this scholarship. For 2022, $2,000 will be available for this award.
• Kathleen Grabil Thorndike Scholarship: The Thorndike Scholarship is available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School who plan to enroll in a four-year college or pursue a liberal arts transfer program at a vocational/technical college with the intention of transferring to a four-year college, to earn a bachelor’s degree. Financial need is a serious consideration. The 2022 award will be $2,600 and will be paid over two years.
• Victor and Ruth Johnson Scholarship: The Johnson Scholarship is available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School who plan to continue their education at a four-year college or university. In 2022, a scholarship of $800 will be available.
• Hannah Church Memorial Scholarship: The Church Memorial Scholarship is available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School who have participated in one of the school’s show choir programs or with show choir-related activities such as stage crew or band. For 2022, $850 will be available for an award.
Four scholarships are open only to vocational or technical college students. The application deadline is 10 p.m. on April 1, 2022.
Three of the four scholarships are open to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School, or former graduates in some cases, who plan to enroll in a vocational or technical college this fall. These three are:
• Jones Industrial & Culinary Voc/Tech Scholarship: Established by Jones Dairy Farm, this scholarship is available to graduating seniors or graduates of Fort Atkinson High School who are pursuing an educational program in either the Industrial Mechanical/Tech Services field (not automotive or construction trades) with an emphasis on electronics, welding and general industrial mechanics – or in the field of culinary arts – at a technical or vocational school in the state of Wisconsin or at the Culinary Institute of America. In 2022, $2,800 will be available for two awards.
• Lloyd Hake Memorial Voc/Tech Scholarship: Funded through the Foundation by a gift from the Lloyd Hake Trust, this scholarship is available to deserving graduates of Fort Atkinson High School who are pursuing an education at a vocational/technical school in order to prepare themselves for a future career. There is no subject restriction. In 2022, $18,000 will be available for multiple awards.
• Jake Meinert Memorial Scholarship: The Meinert Memorial scholarship is available to graduating seniors at Fort Atkinson High School who are pursuing a post-secondary program at a vocational or technical school. There is no subject restriction. In 2022, $1,000 is available for this award.
A fourth scholarship is available to women. It is:
• AAUW Second Chance Scholarship: Available to women who plan to continue their education at a vocational or technical college, after having been out of the mainstream of education for more than one year., applicants must be either a graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, be a resident of Fort Atkinson, or be currently employed in Fort Atkinson. Preference may be given to women who are in financial need or who have assumed family financial responsibilities.
