Fort fire station to be recognized as Wisconsin ‘Project of Distinction’

Keller, Inc, the contractor hired by the City of Fort Atkinson to construct the Fort Atkinson fire station, has announced that it is slated to receive a 2021 “Projects of Distinction” award for three of its projects, including the fire station.

On January 7, the company wrote on its Facebook page that the Fort Atkinson fire station was among its projects that will be receiving “Excellence in Construction” awards at the Projects of Distinction Banquet, planned for Jan. 27 at the Ingleside Hotel in Pewaukee.

The awards are given annually by ABC, the Associated Builders and Contractors, a national industry association with a chapter in Wisconsin.

According to information released by Keller on its Facebook page and shared on the City of Fort Atkinson Fire Department’s Facebook page, the Projects of Distinction Awards are designed to recognize the most distinct construction projects in Wisconsin and to elevate the awareness of the quality construction performed by ABC member firms and their employees.

Projects are judged by a panel of construction experts based on a number of criteria, including safety, quality, owner satisfaction, execution and coordination, budgeting, difficult and unusual challenges, and overall distinctiveness, according to information supplied by Keller.

The company is based in Kaukauna.

Other projects completed by Keller that also will be recognized at the banquet include a Stein’s Garden and Home in Kimberly and The Wharf Manitowoc, a waterfront bar and restaurant.

According to the ABC Wisconsin website, “ABC actively promotes merit or performance-based construction. From a modest start by six Baltimore contractors in 1950, ABC has enjoyed a growing membership, now totaling more than 22,000 firms nationally and more than 900 in the Wisconsin Chapter.”

At this year’s banquet, information on the website continued, some 55 distinct projects will be recognized.

According to information found on the Keller website, planning for the project with the City of Fort Atkinson Fire Department and the company’s management team began in 2017. The project completed in 2021.

Coming at a cost of approximately $5 million, the 21,000-square-foot, multistory fire station was constructed using a phased building and remodeling approach.
