The League of Women Voters-Whitewater Area has announced the formation of a new book club.
According to information released by the league, the club is developed to help league members and members of the public become better informed community advocates as they explore Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policy.
Discussions will be forged through content found in “current, notable books dealing with public policy issues of interest to the league,” according to the release.
“The inaugural book will be ‘Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents’ by Pulitzer Prize winning author Isabel Wilkerson. In ‘Caste,’ Wilkerson ‘examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions,’” the release stated.
Book discussions will be held via Zoom during two meetings. The first will be held Thursday, March 10, and a second will be held on Thursday, March 30. Both will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The league has made arrangements with the Irvin L. Young Memorial Library for those who need to reserve a copy of the book, the release continued.

Any member of the public may participate. The League of Women Voters welcomes men into the discussion.
