The Fort Atkinson City Council on Tuesday, Feb. 2, approved a bid for sealcoating a portion of the Glacial River Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail and four tennis courts in Rock River Park.
Midwest Sealcoat LLC, Dodgeville, will perform sealcoating work on approximately 2.2 miles of trail and resurface four of eight tennis courts in Rock River Park. The work comes at a total cost to the city of $42,000.
The portion of trail to be seal coated is between Farmco Lane and N. Main Street.
The items were included within the city’s budget, Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Director Brooke Franseen said.
A second company, Fahrner Asphalt Sealers, with corporate offices in Plover, submitted a bid of $20,190 for sealcoating the trail, but Franseen said, the company noted that it did not work on tennis courts, and recommended the city contact Midwest Sealcoat for that portion of the project.
Midwest Sealcoat submitted a bid of $25,000 to resurface the four tennis courts and $17,000 to sealcoat the trail.
Franseen said the company has done work for the city in the past.
Looking at financing the project, she said the city budgeted $28,000 within its Parks Capital Outlay provisions. Another $12,000 was donated to the city by a resident. A remaining amount of $1,500 would be supplied by the Parks Supplies account.
Franseen noted that Midwest Sealcoat provided the city with a flexible schedule for performing work on tennis courts, looking to select dates that would take into account school use and tennis lesson schedules, and would avoid performing work on the trail during peak summertime usage.
