Children preparing for next month’s “Lemonade Day” recently tried their hands at building their own lemonade stand with help and hardware supplied by Builders FirstSource, according to a news release from the Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber is the organization sponsoring the Lemonade Day program, which focuses on providing real-world experiences for young entrepreneurs.
The children working with Builders FirstSource were participating in the third of a series of four workshops, according to the release.
A fourth workshop, called “Marketing Day,” was held Wednesday at Purdy and Barrie Elementary schools. The fourth workshop provided guidance to young entrepreneurs as they picked a theme and learned how to attract customers to their lemonade stands, the release noted.
Lemonade Day will be held May 7.
According to the release, during the builders workshop, Builders FirstSource General Manager Ryan Huber presented different options for stand designs along with associated costs and materials.
Designs ranged from something simple, like a card table, to constructions with more complexity, using various materials such as pallets, wooden crates or plywood.
Other design touches added aesthetic appeal and ranged from such items as balloons, paint, and tablecloths.
While participating in the workshop, children learned the importance of safety when working with power tools, the release stated.
